Overview

Nutrisystem is a diet plan program that focuses on portion control and proper balance of food groups in each meal. It is a similar type of program to Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers, but Nutrisystem is now completely internet-based, making it convenient for people with busy schedules.

Food is prepared and shipped directly to the dieter’s door. Since meals are already prepared, the dieter does not have to spend time preparing their own meals and figuring out portions and calories.

This system is backed by the Glycemic Index to help regulate blood sugar levels. Maintaining blood sugar levels will help to maintain satiety and energy levels, and reduce food cravings.

With the Nutrisystem program, participants receive portion controlled meals delevered right to their front door for convenience and time-saving. Customers will also receive daily planners and grocery guides for further assistance in making healthy choices. In addition, customers who choose the Nutrisystem program will have access to free interactive tools and trackers, as well as free support from a Nutrisystem agent.

Personalized fitness programs are also offered to help dieters lose weight even faster. For the technologically savvy, Nutrisystem even offers apps for iPhones, Androids and Blackberries to help assist in keeping track of the dieter’s progress.

Diet

Participants on the Nutrisystem program generally eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, which is cycled on a 28 day meal plan. Protein shakes are also included in this plan. Foods are either selected from a prepared menu, or individually selected by the dieter according to their specific body type and weight. Meals are put together with the proper balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The premise behind this diet is to restrict the dieter’s food portions to accurate portions based on their specified calorie count. There are also programs that are tailored speifially to vegetarians and diabetics.

The new “Chef’s Table Entrees” was introduced recently to improve the taste and flavour of the packaged meals that come with the Nutrisystem program. Delicious meals can include anything from Butternut Squash Ravioli to Citrus BBQ Glazed Pork to help the dieter enjoy their meal while losing weight at the same time.

In general, women’s meal plans are approximately 1200 calories per day, and men’s meal plans are approximately 1500 calories per day.

Exercise

The Nutrisystem program encourages participants to incorporate exercise into their daily or weekly routines. The “Daily 3 Fitness Program” is endorsed by Nutrisystem, which helps dieters to involve some form of exercise into their routine. This exercise program involves 10 minute sessions of a particular activity, performed 3 times per day.

There are a variety of personalized plans developed, as well as a variety of exercise types to choose from to help the participant get active while losing weight on a calorie-reduced, portion-controlled meal plan. The exercises and activities endorsed on the Nutrisystem plan are based on government physical activity guidelines.

Cost and Expenses

Nutrisystem offers programs that are tailored for women, men, diabetics, and vegetarians, which cost approximately $60 per week when on the auto-ship plan.

Overall Rating

Nutrisystem is a very convenient program, considering the fact that participants do not have to think about counting calories, portion control, or how to properly balance each. That work is done for them.

Since each dieter is given a personalized plan and emotional support, dieters who stick to the program are sure to lose weight and get healthy. The exercise routine is easy to follow and incorporate into just about any schedule.

Dieters on this program can expect a safe and steady weight loss of about 2-3 pounds per week. In a month, dieters can lose up to 10-12 pounds if they follow the plan properly. Incorporating exercise into the program can help dieters lose weight even faster.
