What did Dr. Oz say about African Mango Supplements?

As usual, everything always gets blown out of proportion and information is always distorted and exaggerated, so what is the truth?

For starters, Dr. Oz is referring to Irvingia supplement which is produced from African Mango extract. Instead of discussing weight loss directly, Dr. Oz discusses the “Leptin resistance” and what people with Leptin resistance can do to control the weight gain. (3)

“Take an Irvingia supplement. This supplement is made from African mango extract and has been shown to potentially improve leptin sensitivity and help improve body weight and waist and hip circumference. Adults over age 18 can try taking 150 mg twice a day along with food, but stop if you experience any side effects like gassiness, headache, nausea or sleeplessness. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid Irvingia. Always talk to your doctor before starting a new supplement.” (3)

Possible Side Effects of consuming African Mango?

It is recommended to avoid using African Mango with any known allergies or sensitivities to any of the components of this fruit. Mild side effects have been documented to date, which includes the following: a headache, dry mouth, GI complaints, sleep disturbance, and flu like symptoms. (4)

 How does African Mango assist in Weight-Loss?

  • Studies have show that it African Mango increases the levels of Adiponectin which is great for weight loss because Adiponectin is a hormone not only identified for its anti-inflammatory properties but also known for being useful for weight loss (2)
